W&L Women's XCountry Places Eighth at NCAA Regionals
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Washington and Lee women's cross country team was in action on Saturday morning at the NCAA Southeast Region Championships hosted by Rhodes College. The Generals finished eighth out of 25 teams.
Host Rhodes claimed the regional championship with 50 points, followed by Emory (54), Christopher Newport (177), Centre (186) and Lynchburg (198) in the top five. Rounding out the Top 10 teams were Shenandoah (207), Trinity-Texas (212), W&L (218), Bridgewater (220) and Mary Washington (241).
First-year Rebecca Bryer (Chester, Pa./Unionville) led the Generals with a 27th-place finish out of 191 runners with a time of 23:19 en route to garnering all-region accolades. Sophomore Lauren Schultz (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) finished second among the Generals and 35th overall (23:34), while first-year Annelise Madison (Roca, Neb./Norris) completed the course in 24:09 to place 49th.
Senior Katherine Fenwick (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) was fourth on the team and 53rd overall with a time of 24:16 and sophomore Molly Ortiz (Ketchikan, Alaska/Ketchikan) was fifth on the team and 54th overall (24:17).
First-years Mamie Robertson (Richmond, Va./St. Catherine's) and Bella Zuroski (Bemus Point, N.Y./Maple Grove) rounded out the top W&L finishers in the race. Robertson placed 61st (24:30) and Zuroski finished 104th (25:57).
With their eighth-place finish, the Generals' season is now completed.
