LEXINGTON, Va. – Sophomore Lauren Schultz's (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) individual championship spearheaded a strong showing for the Washington and Lee women's cross country team as the Generals won the W&L Invitational on Saturday at the Dick Miller Cross Country Course.
Schultz was one of seven Generals to finish in the Top 15 as W&L won the women's race with a total of 37 points, 10 points better than second-place Catholic.
Schultz covered the course in 24:18 to earn the victory and was joined in the Top 5 by senior Katherine Fenwick (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga), who finished in fifth place (25:16.00). First-year Annelise Madison (Roca, Neb./Norris) earned a Top 10 spot as she finished in eighth place with a time of 25:43.00.
Other top finishers for W&L included first-year Bella Zuroski (Bemus Point, N.Y./Maple Grove), who finished in 11th place (26:02), sophomore Molly Ortiz (Ketchikan, Alaska/Ketchikan), who finished in 12th place (26:10) and first-year Ashley Gerard (Savannah, Ga./Savannah Country Day), who took 13th place in 26:14.
The Generals return to action on Saturday when they take part in the Dickinson Invitational beginning at 12:15.
