Several Generals Earn ODAC Cross Country Honors
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Several members of the Washington and Lee
men's and women's cross country teams were honored on Saturday
morning at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Cross Country
Championships hosted by Virginia Wesleyan College.
Senior Jessica Shaw (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) was tabbed the
ODAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year, while senior Becca
Taylor (Hamilton, Ohio/Edgewood) received the ODAC Women's Cross
Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. Sixth-year Head Coach
Kris Hoey was honored with the ODAC Women's Cross Country Coach of
the Year Award for the fifth-straight year.
Shaw won the women's championship race with a time of 21:41 en
route to also garnering First Team All-ODAC honors. Taylor claimed
the scholar-athlete award for the third-straight year. An economics
major, Taylor also earned First Team All-ODAC honors by placing
fourth overall in the championship meet. Hoey guided the Generals
to their fifth-straight conference crown in dominating fashion as
W&L took four of the top seven individual placings.
Other First Team All-ODAC honorees for the women included senior
Elizabeth Webb (Middleburg, Va./Wakefield School) and junior
Dorothy Todd (Watkinsville, Ga./Athens Academy). Webb earned first
team all-conference laurels for the second-straight season, while
Todd garnered first team accolades for the first time after earning
second team honors each of the past two seasons. Junior Kat
Telfeyan (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) and sophomores Katherine
Fenwick (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) and Christine Balistreri (Mequon,
Wisc./Homestead) all earned Second Team All-ODAC laurels.
On the men's side, senior Michael Welsh (Tullahoma,
Tenn./Tullahoma) was named the ODAC Men's Cross Country
Scholar-Athlete of the Year. A chemistry major, Welsh received the
men's scholar-athlete award following a third-place finish in the
men's championship meet to earn First Team All-ODAC honors for the
fourth-straight year. The Generals finished third overall out of 10
teams at the championship event.
Senior Vance Berry (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Episcopal) joined Welsh
on the All-ODAC First Team for the third-straight season after
garnering Second Team All-ODAC honors as a first-year student.
Sophomore Jack Ivy (Memphis, Tenn./White Station) also earned
Second Team All-ODAC accolades for the Generals.
Both the W&L men and women will return to action on November 15
as they participate in the NCAA Regionals hosted by Texas Lutheran.
