W&L VOLLEYBALL FALL TO SAVANNAH A&D, 3-2, IN NCAA TOURNAMENT (11/11)

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The sixth-seeded Washington and Lee volleyball team was defeated by third-seeded Savannah College of Art & Design, 1-15, 15-11, 15-10, 7-15, 11-15, in the opening round of the NCAA South Region Volleyball Tournament held at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga.

The Generals were led by sophomore middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart), who posted 15 kills, seven digs, and four blocks. Senior outside hitter Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) ended her illustrious W&L career with a nine-kill, 11-dig performance, while sophomore outside hitter Lee Charbonnet (New Orleans, La./Benjamin Franklin) collected 15 kills and six digs. Junior outside hitter Tori Hays (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) notched 10 digs and junior setter Katherine Kline (Potomac, Md./Holton-Arms) amasses a team-high 23 assists.

Savannah A&D (22-9) was led by Mandy Stinson, who totaled 18 kills. The Bees racked up a .336 hitting percentage as a team.

W&L's season ends with a 22-7 overall record. SCAD improved to 22-9 and will play fourth-seeded Austin College on Friday at 7:30 pm.

W&L VOLLEYBALL CLAIMS ODAC TITLE (11/6)

ROANOKE, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's volleyball team claimed its first-ever bid to the NCAA Tournament by defeating Roanoke College 15-12, 15-8, 15-7 in the finals of the ODAC Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Hollins University. The title is the third consecutive ODAC championship for W&L.

The Generals (22-6) earned a spot in the finals with a 12-15, 15-7, 15-9, 15-5 victory over Emory & Henry in the semifinals on Saturday morning. In the match against the Wasps, W&L was led by senior outside hitter Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) who tallied 13 kills, four aces, and 19 digs. ODAC Player-of-the-Year Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) chipped in 21 kills and 13 digs for the Generals. Junior setter Katherine Kline (Potomac, Md./Holton Arms) led W&L with 30 set assists.

In the finals against the Maroons, Ruckert, the Tournament MVP, paced the Generals with 23 kills, three blocks, and eight digs. Sophomore outside-hitter Lee Charbonnet (New Orleans, La./Ben Franklin) chipped in 11 kills, four aces, and eight digs. Reinhart added 12 kills and 11 digs, while Kline and junior setter Pam Saulsbury (Ridgely, Md./North Caroline) combined for 49 set assists.

Due to their stellar play over the weekend, Ruckert and Reinhart were honored as selections to the All-Tournament team. W&L will find out its NCAA pairing on Sunday afternoon when the tournament brackets are released.

W&L VOLLEYBALL WINS ODAC TOURNAMENT OPENER OVER GUILFORD, 3-0 (11/5)

ROANOKE, Va. -- The top-seeded Washington and Lee volleyball team began its defense of its 1998 ODAC Championship with a 15-5, 15-2, 15-5 win over 8th-seeded Guilford on Friday evening at Hollins University.

The Generals will face the winner of the Eastern Mennonite-Emory & Henry match on Saturday at 10:30 am. The Championship match is slated to begin at 3:00 pm.

W&L (20-6) was led by sophomore middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart), who totaled 10 kills, three aces, and three total blocks. Senior outside hitter Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) tallied seven kills, two aces, and 10 digs, while junior setter Katherine Kline (Potomac, Md./Holton-Arms) notched a team-high 17 assists.

Guilford ends its season with a 3-20 overall record.

The 1999 All-ODAC teams were also announced on Friday evening and the Generals had three players honored. Ruckert was named to the First Team for the second year in a row and was also named the ODAC Player of the Year. Reinhart earned her third straight First Team selection, while sophomore outside hitter Lee Charbonnet (New Orleans, La./Benjamin Franklin) was named to the Second Team.

W&L VOLLEYBALL DEFEATS RANDOLPH-MACON, 3-0 (10/30)

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team ended its regular-season with a 15-0, 15-12, 15-9 win over Randolph-Macon on Saturday afternoon in Lexington.

The Generals, 19-6 overall and 10-0 in the ODAC, were led by sophomore middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart), who totaled 12 kills and three blocks. Senior outside hitter Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) tallied nine kills and 15 digs, while sophomore outside hitter Lee Charbonnet (New Orleans, La./Benjamin Franklin) amassed eight kills, five aces, and five digs.

Junior setter Katherine Kline (Potomac, Md./Holton-Arms) notched a team-high 18 assists for the Generals, who have now won 23 consecutive regular season ODAC matches.

Randolph-Macon fell to 7-11 overall and 4-6 in the ODAC.

The Generals next action will be in the ODAC Tournament held November 5-6 at Hollins University. W&L will be No. 1 seed for the tournament.

W&L VOLLEYBALL DEFEATS ROANOKE, 3-0 (10/26)

SALEM, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team defeated Roanoke College, 15-5, 15-13, 15-6, on Tuesday evening.

The win upped W&L's overall record to 18-6 and the Generals are now a perfect 9-0 in the ODAC. W&L has won each of its last 22 regular-season ODAC contests and has already locked up the No. 1 seed for the upcoming ODAC Tournament.

The Generals will be in action again on Saturday afternoon as they host Randolph-Macon in a 12:30 pm match.

W&L VOLLEYBALL SPLITS PAIR OF MATCHES (10/23)

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon in Lexington, Va. The Generals began the day with a 15-9, 15-9, 10-15, 15-12 win over Greensboro College. W&L dropped its second match of the day to Centre College by a count of 11-15, 15-12, 15-11, 15-7. Also, in a neutral site match, Centre defeated Greensboro by a score of 15-4, 12-15, 15-10, and 16-14.

In the match against Greensboro (20-8), senior outside hitter Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) led the Generals with 12 kills and 21 digs. Sophomore middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metarie, La./Sacred Heart) dominated the net play with 11 kills, 3 solo blocks, and 1 block assist. Junior outside hitter Tori Hays (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) anchored the back line with 21 digs while junior setter Katherine Kline (Potomac, Md./Holton-Arms) provided 33 set assists for W&L (17-6).

Against Centre (9-18), W&L was led by Ruckert with 23 kills and 15 digs. Reinhart posted 12 kills and 27 digs, and freshman outside hitter Stacy Kimmel (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) posted seven kills and 17 digs. Kline led the squad with 32 assists.

With her totals from the two matches, Reinhart moved to within seven kills of breaking the all-time ODAC mark for career kills. She will look to surpass the record when the Generals are in action again on October 26, against Roanoke College. The match is set for 6:30 pm in Roanoke, Va.

W&L VOLLEYBALL DOWNS EASTERN MENNONITE, 3-0 (10/21)

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee improved to 8-0 in the ODAC with a 15-6, 15-3, 15-3 victory over Eastern Mennonite in volleyball action on Thursday evening.

The Generals, 16-5 overall, were led by sophomore middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart), who totaled 11 kills and eight digs. Senior outside hitter Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) tallied six kills and 12 digs and is now just 31 kills from breaking the ODAC career record.

Junior setter Katherine Kline (Potomac, Md./Holton-Arms) notched a team-high 20 assists for the Generals, who have now won 21 consecutive regular season ODAC matches. In addition, W&L raised its record in the Warner Center to 47-3 over the last four seasons.

Eastern Mennonite (8-15, 6-4) was led by freshman offensive specialist Bonnie Berry (Dalton, Ohio/Central Christian), who tallied seven kills and nine digs. Junior middle hitter Elaine Froese (St. Thomas, Ont./Central Elgin) led the Royals with 12 digs, while freshman setter Kendra Conrad (Wayland, Iowa/Iowa Mennonite) totaled a team-high 18 assists.

The Generals will next play on Saturday as they host Greensboro College and Centre College in a tri-match. Gametimes are set for 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm.

W&L VOLLEYBALL GOES 2-2 IN THE EMORY INVITATIONAL (10/16)

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball posted a 2-2 record in the Emory University Invitational held in Atlanta, Ga., over the weekend. On Friday evening, W&L was defeated by Averett College, 15-10, 17-15, 15-10 and defeated North Carolina Wesleyan, 14-16, 15-6, 12-15, 15-8, 15-11. On Saturday, the Generals defeated Greensboro College, 15-12, 16-14, 15-6 and were defeated by 12th-ranked Emory University, 5-15, 15-11, 1-15, 14-16.

Against Greensboro, W&L (15-5) was led by sophomore middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart), who totaled 13 kills and 11 digs. Senior outside hitter Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) tallied eight kills, four total blocks, and 10 digs, while junior setter Katherine Kline (Potomac, Md./Holton-Arms) notched a team-high 22 assists.

In the loss to Emory, Reinhart was credited with 15 kills and 18 digs to lead the Generals. Ruckert amassed 12 kills and 19 digs and junior outside hitter Tori Hays (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) tallied 19 digs. Kline added 29 assists.

Ruckert was named to the all-tournament team and Reinhart's kill totals for the weekend gave her the W&L record for career kills surpassing Hilary MartinÕs (1994-97) total of 1,091. Reinhart is bearing down on the ODAC record for that category as well.

W&LÕs next contest will be on Thursday as it hosts Eastern Mennonite in a 6:30 pm contest.

The Generals, who are now 12-3 overall, were led by sophomore middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart), who totaled 21 kills and 10 digs. Senior outside hitter Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) recorded 12 kills and 14 digs, setting a new Old Dominion Athletic Conference record for career digs (1305).

Junior outside hitter Tori Hays (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) notched nine kills and 13 digs, while junior setter Katherine Kline (Potomac, Md./Holton-Arms) amassed a team-high 23 assists.

Greensboro (17-4) was led by Tineta McMillan, who totaled a game-high 27 kills.

The Generals, who are now 12-2 overall, were led by sophomore middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart), who totaled five kills, five digs, and four aces. Senior outside hitter Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) recorded four kills, four aces, and six digs to move within 10 digs of claiming the ODAC record for career digs. Junior outside hitter Tori Hays (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) notched 10 digs and junior setter Pam Saulsbury (Ridgely, Md./North Caroline) amassed 13 assists.

With the loss, Sweet Briar fell to 3-10 overall, 0-6 in the ODAC.

EMORY, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's volleyball team defeated Emory & Henry on Thursday evening by a count of 17-15, 9-15, 15-3, 15-3 for their 18th consecutive ODAC victory.

Senior outside hitter Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) led the Generals (11-2, 5-0 ODAC) with 18 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metarie, La./Sacred Heart) dominated the net play with 18 kills, 5 solo blocks, and 3 block assists. Junior outside hitter Tori Hays (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) anchored the back line with 24 digs while junior setter Katherine Kline (Potomac, Md./Holton-Arms) provided 29 set assists for W&L.

The loss was the first conference defeat of the season for the Wasps (9-5, 4-1 ODAC).

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team continued its dominance over ODAC competition by defeating Randolph-Macon Woman's College, 15-11, 15-1, 16-14, in Lexington on Tuesday evening.

The Generals were led by senior outside hitter Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart), who totaled 11 kills and seven digs. Reinhart is now just 26 digs shy of the ODAC record for career digs. Sophomore middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) tallied nine kills and fellow classmate Lee Charbonnet (New Orleans, La./Benjamin Franklin) notched six kills and eight digs. Junior Katherine Kline (Potomac, Md./Holton-Arms) led the Generals' setters with 15 assists.

The win upped W&L's record to 10-2 overall, 4-0 in the ODAC. With the loss Randolph-Macon Woman's College falls to 4-8 overall, 0-2 in the ODAC.

W&L will look to win its 18th consecutive ODAC match when it takes on Emory & Henry Thursday at 6:30 pm in Emory, Va.

MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team won the championship of the Maryville Invitational by defeating Westminster College, 15-13, 7-15, 15-6, 16-14, and Maryville College, 7-15, 15-9, 15-9, 15-9.

In the opening match, the Generals were led by senior outside hitter Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart), who totaled 11 kills and 21 digs. Sophomore middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) tallied 13 kills, 13 digs, and five block assists, while junior outside hitter Tori Hays (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) registered six kills and 14 digs. Junior setter Katherine Kline (Potomac, Md./Holton-Arms) led the Generals with 25 assists.

In match two, sophomore outside hitter Lee Charbonnet (New Orleans, La./Benjamin Franklin) totaled 14 kills, 12 digs, five solo blocks, two block assists, and four aces to lead the Generals (9-2). Ruckert amassed 15 kills and 12 digs, Hays tallied eight kills and 16 digs, and Reinhart notched nine kills and 23 digs. Ruckert and Charbonnet were named to the all-tournament team for their efforts.

MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team went 1-1 in the opening round of the Maryville Invitational Friday evening. The Generals were defeated by Savannah College of Art and Design, 9-15, 15-9, 16-14, 11-15, 21-23, then downed Eastern Mennonite, 16-18, 15-8, 15-10, 10-15, 15-10.

In the loss to SCAD, W&L was led by senior outside hitter Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart), who totaled 12 kills and 26 digs. Sophomore middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) tallied 17 kills, four aces, and 14 digs, while junior setter Katherine Kline (Potomac, Md./Holton-Arms) amassed a team-high 34 assists. Junior setter Pam Saulsbury (Ridgely, Md./North Caroline) also added 21 assists on the evening.

In the win over EMU, Ruckert led the Generals (7-2) with 16 kills and 18 digs. Reinhart totaled 10 kills and 12 digs, while Kline collected 31 assists. Saulsbury added 23 assists and five aces.

W&L is in action again on Saturday afternoon in the final day of the tournament before returning home to take on Randolph-Macon Woman's College on Tuesday evening. Gametime is set for 6:30 pm.

The Generals (6-1, 3-0) were led by sophomore middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart), who totaled 11 kills, four aces, and four solo blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Lee Charbonnet (New Orleans, La./Benjamin Franklin) recorded 11 kills and 12 digs, while junior setter Katherine Kline (Potomac, Md./Holton-Arms) amassed a team-high 34 assists.

W&L has now won 16 consecutive ODAC matches dating back to the 1997 season. The loss dropped Bridgewater to 2-5 overall, 1-1 in the ODAC.

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team played a pair of games Saturday, first defeating N.C. Wesleyan 15-4, 15-4, 15-4 in the semifinal round of the W&L Volleyball Invitational. In the finals, however, the Generals (3-1) lost to Catholic University (6-3) by a score of 15-6, 11-15, 15-9, 11-15, and 15-11.

In the semifinal match, the Generals were led by senior outside hitter Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart), who tallied 13 kills and 18 digs. Junior defensive specialist Tory Hays (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) provided the Generals with stellar back line play, exhibited by her 13 digs.

In the finals, Washington and Lee could not overcome a slow start, losing in five games. In the first game, Washington and Lee trailed 14-0 before scoring a point. The Generals fought valiantly to force the fifth game, where Catholic clinched the championship. The defeat was the first of the season for the Generals. Sophomore middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) totaled 19 kills and 15 digs in the championship, while sophomore outside hitter Lee Charbonnet (New Orleans, La./Benjamin Franklin) tallied 13 kills and 14 digs.

The Generals were paced by senior outside hitter Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart), who tallied 10 kills and 19 digs. W&L VOLLEYBALL OPENS WITH 3-0 WIN OVER MARY BALDWIN

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team open the 1999-2000 W&L Athletics season with a 15-1, 15-3, 15-5 win over Mary Baldwin in the opening match of the W&L Invitational. The win upped W&L's win streak to 17-straight matches dating back to last season.

The Generals, two-time defending ODAC Champions, were led by senior outside hitter Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart), who posted 10 kills and 10 digs. She was joined in double-figure kills by sophomore middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart), who had 10 kills and six digs. Junior setter Pam Saulsbury (Ridgely, Md./North Caroline) led W&L with 19 assists, while sophomore outside hitter Lee Charbonnet (New Orleans, La./Benjamin Franklin) totaled six aces.

With the loss, Mary Baldwin dropped to 1-4 on the season.

The Generals will play again at 8:00 pm this evening when they take on Catholic University. Teams participating in the two-day tournament are Catholic, Mary Baldwin, North Carolina Wesleyan, St. Mary's (Md.), Shenandoah, and W&L.
