W&L VOLLEYBALL WINS ODAC TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP (11/7)

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The top-seeded Washington and Lee Volleyball Team defeated fourth-seeded Roanoke College, 15-13, 15-7, 15-8, in the semifinals of the ODAC Tournament and then defeated third seeded Eastern Mennonite, 9-15, 15-13, 17-15, 15-9, in the finals to win its second-straight ODAC Tournament Championship.

Against the Maroons (14-11), the Generals were led by freshman middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart), who posted 14 kills, seven blocks, and 15 digs. Fellow classmate Lee Charbonnet (New Orleans, La./Benjamin Franklin) totaled 12 kills, four aces, and 13 digs, and sophomore setter Pam Saulsbury (Ridgely, Md./North Caroline) amassed 27 assists.

In the final against Eastern Mennonite (15-14), the Generals (26-2) were paced by Ruckert, who totaled 21 kills and five blocks en route to Tournament MVP honors. Freshman Ricka Hildebrand (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute S. Vigo) had 15 kills, four blocks, and 13 digs, earning all-tournament team honors. Saulsbury totaled 55 assists, the second-highest total in school history.

W&L has now tied the school record for consecutive wins (16) and must wait to find out if it will receive its first ever NCAA Tournament bid. The Generals are currently ranked 8th in the South Region, with the top six teams receiving a tournament bid.

W&L VOLLEYBALL DEFEATS HOLLINS IN ODAC TOURNAMENT, 3-0 (11/6)

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The top-seeded Washington and Lee Volleyball team began its ODAC Tournament title defense on Friday evening by defeating eighth-seeded Hollins University, 15-2, 15-4, 15-11, in the semifinals hosted by Bridgewater College.

The Generals were led by junior outside hitter Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart), who had five kills and nine digs, and freshman outside hitter Ricka Hildebrand (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute S. Vigo), who compiled nine kills and two blocks.

The win upped W&L's overall record to 24-2 and extended its winning streak to 14 straight matches. Hollins dropped to 10-17 overall on the season.

The Generals now face fourth-seeded Roanoke College, who were 3-0 winners over Randolph-Macon in another quarterfinal match-up. The two teams will meet on Saturday morning at 10:30 am. The winner advances to the finals at 3:00 pm.

W&L VOLLEYBALL DEFEATS ROANOKE, 3-0 (10/31)

LEXINGTON, Va. -- On Saturday afternoon, the Washington and Lee volleyball team defeated Roanoke College, 15-10, 15-1, 15-7, to finish its regular season with a 23-2 overall record and a perfect 10-0 ODAC mark.

Junior outside hitter Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) had nine digs in the match, breaking her own school single-season dig record (353) that she set last season. She now claims 361 digs in 1998. Reinhart's nine digs also gave her the W&L career digs record (1,041) surpassing the old mark of 1,036 held by Leslie Hess (1989-92).

Senior middle blocker Megan Snodgrass (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) also set a W&L career mark, finishing the day with 386 career games played, eclipsing the old mark of 383 held by Hilary Martin (1994-97). Snodgrass finished the match with seven kills.

Freshman middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) had a team-high nine kills and senior setter Lee Ann Gschwind (Islip, N.Y./Islip) had a team-high 18 kills in the final home match of her career.

With the loss, Roanoke dropped to 13-10 overall, 6-4 in the ODAC.

W&L will next be in action when it participates in the ODAC Tournament held November 6-7 at Bridgewater College. The Generals will be the tournament's No. 1 seed.

W&L VOLLEYBALL DEFEATS EASTERN MENNONITE, 3-2 (10/27)

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team improved its overall record to 22-2, 9-0 in the ODAC, by defeating Eastern Mennonite, 9-15, 15-6, 11-15, 15-5, 15-6, on Tuesday evening.

The Generals were led by junior outside hitter Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart), who had 16 kills, three aces, and 23 digs. Reinhart now has 352 digs on the season, just one shy of tying the school record that she set last season. In addition, she has 1,032 digs for her career, just 59 from tying the W&L career mark.

Freshman outside hitter Ricka Hildebrand (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute S. Vigo) had 16 kills and three blocks and sophomore setter Pam Saulsbury (Ridgely, Md./North Caroline) had a team-high 30 assists.

The Generals amassed 13 aces in the contest, lifting their season total to 237, breaking the old single-season record of 225 set during the 1990 season.

With the loss, Eastern Mennonite fell to 7-3 in the ODAC and 12-11 overall.

Washington and Lee will play its final regular-season match of the season on October 31, when it hosts arch-rival Roanoke College in a 12:00 pm match.

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team won its 11th-straight match on Thursday evening by defeating Christopher Newport 15-3, 15-8, 15-10.

The Generals were led by freshman outside hitter Ricka Hildebrand (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute S. Vigo), who posted eight kills. Junior outside hitter Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) had six kills, three aces, and 14 digs. Sophomore setter Pam Saulsbury (Ridgely, Md./North Caroline) had a team-high 10 assists and 10 digs.

Washington and Lee will resume its schedule on Tuesday, November 27 when it travels to Eastern Mennonite for a 6:30 pm match.

W&L VOLLEYBALL WINS GOUCHER INVITATIONAL (10/17)

TOWSON, Md. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball posted a 4-0 record on Saturday afternoon, claiming the championship of the Goucher Invitational.

The Generals defeated Alvernia 15-6, 15-12, 15-10 and Goucher 15-13, 15-13, 6-15, 15-12 in the preliminary rounds, then defeated Seton Hill 15-3, 13-15, 15-11, 15-8 to advance to the finals.

In the finals, the Generals defeated host Goucher 15-12, 20-18, 15-4 to win their second tournament championship of the season. W&L also won its own W&L invitational to begin the season.

Against Alvernia, freshman middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) posted 16 kills, while sophomore setter Pam Saulsbury (Ridgely, Md./North Caroline) had 23 assists and four aces.

In the first win over Goucher, Ruckert totaled 22 kills and 15 digs, with Saulsbury totaling 24 assists and 10 digs. Junior outside hitter and tournament MVP Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) had seven kills and 24 digs.

Against Seton Hill, junior defensive specialist Tori Hays (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) totaled 20 digs and five aces and Reinhart amassed 16 kills and 25 digs.

In the championship game, the Generals were led by Ruckert with 11 kills, 12 digs, and four blocks and Saulsbury with 27 assists.

Ruckert also earned all-tournament team honors for the Generals, who are now 20-2 on the season.

Washington and Lee will resume its schedule on Thursday, November 22 when it hosts Christopher Newport in a 6:30 pm match.

W&L VOLLEYBALL DROPS RANDOLPH-MACON 3-0 (10/13)

ASHLAND, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team pushed its unbeaten streak to six Tuesday evening by defeating Randolph-Macon, 15-8, 15-10, 15-8. The Generals have now won 34 of their last 35 regular-season ODAC matches.

Freshman middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) led the Generals offensive attack with nine kills, 11 digs, and two blocks. Junior outside hitter Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) had four kills, three aces and 17 digs, while sophomore setter Pam Saulsbury (Ridgely, Md./North Caroline) notched 12 assists.

W&L improved to 16-2 overall, 8-0 in the ODAC while Randolph-Macon dropped to 13-9 overall, 3-3 in the ODAC.

Washington and Lee will resume play on Saturday, October 17, when it travels to Towson, Md., to participate in the Goucher Tournament.

SWEET BRIAR, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team remained unbeaten in the ODAC on Thursday evening by defeating Sweet Briar 15-6, 15-4, 15-10. The Generals are now 15-2 overall and 7-0 in the ODAC.

Senior Megan Snodgrass (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) and freshman Ricka Hildebrand (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute S. Vigo) led the W&L offensive attack with seven kills a piece, while freshman Lee Charbonnet (New Orleans, La./Benjamin Franklin) posted five kills, six aces, and five blocks. Sophomore Katherine Kline (Potomac, Md./Holton Arms School) tallied a team-high 10 assists and four aces. The loss dropped Sweet Briar to 4-12 overall and 0-5 in the ODAC.

Washington and Lee will resume play on Tuesday, October 13, when it travels to Ashland, Va., to play the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets at 6:30 pm.

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team pushed its unbeaten streak over ODAC competition to twelve-straight on Tuesday evening by defeating Emory & Henry 15-5, 15-4, 15-7. The win was also the Generals ninth-straight over the Wasps.

Freshman Ricka Hildebrand (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute S. Vigo) led the W&L offensive attack with 12 kills. Fellow classmate Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) also had nine kills for the Generals. Junior Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) paced the Generals with 13 digs and sophomore Katherine Kline (Potomac, Md./Holton Arms School) tallied a team-high 17 assists.

The win upped W&L to 14-2 overall, 6-0 in ODAC play, while Emory & Henry fell to 11-8 overall and 3-3 in the ODAC.

Washington and Lee will resume play on Thursday, October 8, when it travels to Sweet Briar, Va., to play the Sweet Briar Vixens at 6:30 pm.

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team defeated ODAC-rvial Lynchburg College 15-7, 11-15, 6-15, 15-5, 15-7 on Thursday evening.

The win upped W&L's overall record to 13-2, 5-0 ODAC, while Lynchburg fell to 11-5 overall, 1-3 ODAC.

The Generals will be in action again on Tuesday, October 6, when they host Emory & Henry in a 6:30 pm match.

W&L DEFEATS BRIDGEWATER 3-0 IN VOLLEYBALL(9/29)

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Freshman middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) totaled 19 kills and nine digs to help lead the Washington and Lee volleyball team past Bridgewater College, 15-10, 15-11, 15-12 on Tuesday evening.

Fellow classmate Lee Charbonnet (New Orleans, La./Benjamin Franklin) totaled seven kills, 18 digs and four aces, while sophomore setters Katherine Kline (Potomac, Md./Holton Arms School) and Pam Saulsbury (Ridgely, Md./North Caroline) each amassed 21 assists.

Bridgewater (8-1, 2-1) was led by Amy Weaver (Weyers Cave, Va./Fort Defiance) with 34 assists, Jennifer Hogshead (Churchville, Va./Buffalo Gap) with 15 digs, and Jennifer Frack (Nokesville, Va./Brentsville) with 12 kills.

W&L is now 12-2 overall and 4-0 in the ODAC. The Generals are also ranked fifth in the South Region, with the top six teams in each region advancing to the NCAA Tournament.

The Generals next action will take place on October 1, when they travel to Lynchburg College for a 6:30 pm contest.

W&L DEFEATS RANDOLPH-MACON WOMEN'S 3-0 IN VOLLEYBALL (9/23)

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Washington and Lee's volleyball team won its seventh-straight match on Wednesday evening by defeating Randolph-Macon Women's College 15-3, 15-4, 15-4 on the road in Lynchburg, Va. It was the Generals' first road match of the season after playing their first eight at home.

The Generals (8-1, 3-0) were paced by junior outside hitter Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart), who recorded seven kills and five digs. Senior middle blocker and ODAC Player of the Week Megan Snodgrass (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) had six kills and nine digs and senior setter Lee Ann Gschwind (Islip, N.Y./Islip) had a team-high 10 assists. The loss dropped RMWC to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the ODAC.

Washington and Lee's next matches will be on September 25-26, when the travel to Maryville College to participate in the Maryville Tournament.

W&L DEFEATS GREENSBORO 3-2 IN VOLLEYBALL (9/20)

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee senior middle blockerMegan Snodgrass (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) set a new school record with 31 digs as W&L won its sixth-straight match by defeating Greensboro College, 6-15, 15-13, 15-6, 14-16, 15-10, in volleyball action on Sunday afternoon.

The Generals (7-1) had Greensboro on the brink of elimination up two games to one and a 10-2 lead in the fourth game, but the Pride (5-1) battled back to win the game 16-14 and force a decisive fifth game.

Snodgrass' 31 digs eclipsed the old school record of 29 held by Mena McGowin since the 1990 season.

Freshman middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metarie, La./Sacred Heart) led the Generals with 23 kills followed by junior outside hitter Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart), who totaled 19 kills. Reinhart also amassed 25 digs. Sophomore setter Katherine Kline (Potomac, Md./Holton Arms School) tallied 29 assists and senior setter Lee Ann Gschwind (Islip, N.Y./Islip) totaled 22 assists.

Washington and Lee's next match will be on September 23, when the travel to Randolph-Macon Women's College for a 6:30 pm match.

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee upped its overall record to 6-1 on the season, 2-0 ODAC, with a 15-8, 15-1, 15-10 win over Hollins University Thursday evening.

W&L worked 13 different players into the lineup, cruising to its fifth-straight win and 36th in its last 38 home matches.

Senior Megan Snodgrass (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) and freshman Ricka Hildebrand (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute S. Vigo) lead the Generals in kills with five a piece, while sophomore setter Pam Saulsbury (Ridgely, Md./North Caroline) totaled 10 assists.

W&L will return to action on Sunday, September 20, when it faces Greensboro College in a 1:00 pm match.

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior outside hitter Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) totaled nine kills and 12 digs to help lead W&L past Guilford 15-7, 15-5, 15-4 in ODAC volleyball action

The Generals were never threatened in the match, claiming their fifth win of the season against just one loss. The win also upped W&L's ODAC record to 1-0. Guilford fell to 1-4, 0-1 ODAC.

Sophomore setter Pam Saulsbury (Ridgely, Md./North Caroline) also notched 12 assists in helping the Generals to their 35th win in their last 37 home matches.

W&L will be in action again on Thursday, September 17, when it faces Hollins in a 6:30 pm match..
