LEXINGTON, Va. — The Washington and Lee volleyball team recorded its best single-match hitting percentage in almost five years, as the Generals swept Emory & Henry on Wednesday, 3-0, at the Duchossois Tennis Center.
The Blue and White (9-8, 6-1 ODAC) notched 45 kills with only seven errors on 83 attempts for a .458 hitting percentage in a 25-15, 25-17, 25-19 win over the Wasps (4-12, 1-5 ODAC). The .458 clip is the best single-match mark for W&L since the Generals hit .471 (48 kills, 8 errors, 85 attempts) in a 3-0 victory against Hollins on October 5, 2013.
Junior outside hitter Allison Webb (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) led the offense with 12 kills on 18 attempts with only one error (.611 hitting percentage). She also had four digs. Junior outside hitter Ashleigh Meade (Bristow, Va./Patriot) recorded 10 kills on 14 attempts with two errors (.444 hitting percentage), while totaling eight digs and two aces.
Junior setter Anna Soroka (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) tallied a match-high 33 assists with eight digs and three kills. First-year middle blocker Hannah O'Connor (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) needed only six swings to register four kills (.667 hitting percentage), and sophomore outside hitter Brynne Gould (Boone, N.C./Watauga) chipped in four kills on five attempts (.800 hitting percentage).
E&H had just 28 kills with 17 errors on 87 attempts (.126). Senior outside hitter Rebecca Morehouse paced the team with six kills. Senior setter Sam McCauley notched 19 assists and three kills.
The Generals host a tri-match on Saturday. W&L will take on Lynchburg at 12:00 pm, and then play Stevenson at 4:30 pm.
