LEXINGTON, Va. — First-year outside hitter Allison Webb (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) and sophomore outside hitter Meg Guignon (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) each notched double-digit kills to lead the Washington and Lee volleyball team past Guilford, 3-0, on Saturday at the Warner Center.
The Generals (15-3, 6-0 ODAC) won the first set, 25-17. In the second, the Quakers (8-10, 3-3 ODAC) held a 23-21 advantage, but W&L tallied three straight points to grab a 24-23 edge.
Guilford evened the score, 24-24, but a kill by senior middle blocker Mackenzie Shand (Saline, Mich./Saline) and a service ace by junior defensive specialist Katie Volk (Lancaster, Calif./Quartz Hill) ended the set, 26-24. The Blue and White raced out to a 17-9 lead in the third and eventually claimed the stanza, 25-20, and took the match.
Guignon had a double-double with 13 kills and 13 digs. Webb had 10 kills and six digs. Shand totaled nine kills and five blocks. First-year outside hitter Ashleigh Meade (Bristow, Va./Patriot) registered eight kills and 13 assists.
Sophomore outside hitter Elly Cosgrove (Wilmington, N.C./John T. Hoggard) tallied a team-high 15 digs, and Volk added 14. Junior Elena West (Roanoke, Va./Northside) and first-year Anna Soroka (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) split the setting duties. Soroka recorded 19 assists, while West had 18.
Junior outside hitter Casey Davis led Guilford with seven kills and a match-high 21 digs. First-year defensive specialist Christian Ritter contributed 16 digs.
The Generals hosted Frostburg State later on Saturday.
