VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Virginia Wesleyan totaled a .315 hitting percentage to defeat the Washington and Lee volleyball team, 3-0, on Wednesday evening at the Batten Center.
The Marlins (19-6, 7-0 ODAC) won the first set, 25-20, and then edged the Generals (11-10, 6-1 ODAC) in the second, 27-25. VWC closed out the match by claiming the third, 25-17.
Virginia Wesleyan notched 49 kills on 127 attempts with only nine errors for its .315 hitting percentage, while W&L recorded 41 kills on 133 total attempts with 16 errors for a .188 hitting percentage.
Senior outside hitter Anna Lausberg (Ocoee, Fla./Bishop Moore Catholic) led the Generals with a match-high 16 kills. She also had seven digs. With her 16 kills, she pushed her career total to 1,265, and passed Rachael Phillips '10 for fifth on the W&L all-time list. Emily Wolfing '05 is fourth all-time with 1,490 kills.
Sophomore defensive specialist Katie Volk (Lancaster, Calif./Quartz Hill) led the Blue and White with a match-high 21 digs, while first-year outside hitter Meg Guignon (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) had 15 digs. Sophomore setter Elena West (Roanoke, Va./Northside) registered 31 assists and nine digs.
Junior outside hitter Tiffany Barrett tallied a double-double with 13 kills and 16 digs to lead the Marlins. Senior defensive specialist Marin Crowder added 19 digs and sophomore defensive specialist Maddie Starr had 13 digs.
The Generals return to action when they host Bridgewater on Friday at 6:30 pm.
