W&L Volleyball Loses at Virginia Wesleyan, 3-0

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The Washington and Lee volleyball team suffered its second straight ODAC loss on Friday, as it fell at Virginia Wesleyan, 3-0.

The Marlins (19-7, 7-1 ODAC) edged the Generals (19-4, 6-2 ODAC), 25-23, in each of the first two sets. VWC then closed out the match in the third, 25-16.

Junior setter Kirstin Sessoms and senior middle hitter Alex Lambert led Virginia Wesleyan to the victory. Sessoms recorded a double-double with 33 assists and 10 digs. Lambert tallied a match-high 10 kills.

Junior setter Alex Kinzer (Greenville, S.C./Eastside) led W&L with 16 assists, a team-high seven kills, five digs and three total blocks. First-year defensive specialist Katie Volk (Lancaster, Calif./Quartz Hill) totaled a team-high 14 digs and had four assists. Junior outside hitter Kasey Cannon (North Wales, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) notched 11 digs.

The Generals play at Randolph-Macon on Saturday at 11:00 am, and then compete in a neutral-site contest against Franklin & Marshall at 1:00 pm.
