LEXINGTON, Va. — Junior outside hitter Kasey Cannon (North Wales, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) notched a team-high 12 kills, along with seven digs, to lead the Washington and Lee volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Mary Washington on Saturday at the Warner Center.
Cannon reached the 12 kills on just 21 attempts and only committed four errors for a .381 hitting percentage. This was the fourth time this season she has tallied double-digit kills and was the second time this year she totaled 12.
The Generals (16-1) widened the gap against the Eagles (12-5) in each set, winning 25-22, 25-19, 25-17.
Junior outside hitter Anna Lausberg (Ocoee, Fla./Bishop Moore Catholic) was second on the team with eight kills. Sophomore defensive specialist Sam Moench (St. Petersburg, Fla./Berkeley Prep) led W&L with eight digs, while adding three assists and two aces.
Junior setter Alex Kinzer (Greenville, S.C./Eastside) notched 21 assists, three kills, four digs and four blocks, while sophomore middle blocker Mackenzie Shand (Saline, Mich./Saline) registered six kills and a match-high five blocks.
W&L hit .247 as a team with 39 kills on 89 attempts with 17 errors, while holding UMW to a .069 hitting percentage (23K, 17E, 87TA).
First-year outside hitter Rachel Hendricks (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) led the Eagles with 10 kills, and first-year libero Jenna Yost (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson) totaled a match-high 10 digs.
The Generals have won 15 straight matches, which is the longest streak since winning a program-best 25 during the 2007 season. W&L also extended its home winning streak to 19. The program record for consecutive home victories is 25, which happened over the 2005, 2006 and 2007 seasons.
The Blue and White returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Shenandoah at 7:00 pm.
