LEXINGTON, Va. — The Washington and Lee volleyball team extending its winning streak to 11 on Friday with a 3-0 victory over Eastern Mennonite at the Warner Center.
The Royals (5-10, 0-2 ODAC) held a lead in every set, but the Generals (12-1, 2-0 ODAC) came back in each one for a 25-22, 25-18, 25-20 win.
Junior setter Alex Kinzer (Greenville, S.C./Eastside) led the team with 25 assists, nine digs, four kills and three blocks. Junior outside hitter Anna Lausberg (Ocoee, Fla./Bishop Moore Catholic) recorded a team-high 10 kills, while junior middle blocker Jenna Gustafson (San Diego, Calif./Francis Parker School) added seven kills and three aces.
Senior defensive specialist Kelly McManus (Osprey, Fla./Pine View) notched nine digs, as did first-year outside hitter Mary Silliman (Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland Prep). Sophomore middle blocker Mackenzie Shand (Saline, Mich./Saline) added six kills, three assists and four blocks.
Sophomore outside hitter Becca Hardy (Port Republic, Va./Eastern Mennonite) led EMU with 10 kills, and first-year defensive specialist Skyler Johnson (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) tallied nine digs. First-year setter Jasmine Johnson (Staunton, Va./Robert E. Lee) totaled 21 assists and seven digs.
This is the longest winning streak for the Generals since they won 12 in a row during the middle of the 2011 season. W&L also had a 13-match unbeaten streak to start the 2011 year. The Blue and White host Bridgewater on Saturday at 12:00 pm and then play St. Mary's at 5:00 pm.
