McManus Leads W&L Volleyball to 3-0 Win Over Cabrini

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Led by the defense of senior defensive specialist Kelly McManus (Osprey, Fla./Pine View), the Washington and Lee volleyball team defeated Cabrini, 3-0, on day two of the CNU Captains Classic on Saturday. McManus totaled a season-high 21 digs to lead all players.

Despite the appearance of an easy victory, the Cavaliers (1-2) kept each set close. The Generals (2-1) won the first, 25-19, and then edge Cabrini, 25-22, in the final two sets.

On offense for W&L, junior outside hitter Kasey Cannon (North Wales, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) registered eight kills on 25 attempts. She also added 10 digs. Junior outside hitter Anna Lausberg (Ocoee, Fla./Bishop Moore Catholic) had eight kills as well.

Sophomore middle blocker Mackenzie Shand (Saline, Mich./Saline) efficiently totaled seven kills on 13 attempts with just one error for a .462 hitting percentage. Junior setter Alex Kinzer (Greenville, S.C./Eastside) tallied a season-high 28 assists, while adding four digs, two kills and two service aces.  

Junior opposite-side Jen Grenauer and first-year outside hitter Anne-Marie Jones each had seven kills to lead the Cavaliers' attack. In the back row, sophomore outside hitter Kelly Guarino notched 15 digs, senior outside hitter Amy Guarino had 14 and Jones totaled 13.

The Generals play their final match of the CNU Captains Classic later on Saturday against Meredith.
