NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — In its final match at the CNU Captains Classic on Saturday, the Washington and Lee volleyball team defeated Meredith, 3-0, behind a career-high 13 kills from first-year outside hitter Mary Silliman (Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland Prep). She became the first General (3-1) to notch double-digit kills this season, totaling 25 attempts with four errors for a .360 hitting percentage.
W&L controlled the tempo of the match, defeating the Avenging Angels, 25-13, 25-14, 25-16.
Senior setter Alex Kinzer (Greenville, S.C./Eastside) also set a season-high with 33 assists. She added three kills, two aces and four digs as well. Junior outside hitter Kasey Cannon (North Wales, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) registered nine kills on 21 attempts, while notching eight digs.
Senior defensive specialist Kelly McManus (Osprey, Fla./Pine View) led the Generals with 13 digs. Junior middle blocker Jenna Gustafson (San Diego, Calif./Francis Parker School) was efficient in the contest with five kills on seven attempts and recorded four service aces.
Sophomore outside hitter Karlie Long led Meredith with 10 kills and sophomore defensive specialist Keegan Lynch added 14 digs and six assists.
At the conclusion of the Classic, Kinzer and Lausberg were named to the All-Tournament Team. The Generals return home to host their invitational next weekend, starting on Friday with a match against Marietta at 5:00 pm.
