W&L Volleyball Falls to No. 25 Christopher Newport, 3-0

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The Washington and Lee volleyball team fell to 25th-ranked Christopher Newport on Friday, 3-0, at the CNU Captains Classic.

In the opening set, the Captains (2-0) held a 24-21 lead, but the Generals tied the score, after a service error by CNU, a kill by junior outside hitter Mansie Hough (St. Petersburg, Fla./Canterbury School) and an attack error by sophomore middle blocker Hannah Miller.

Christopher Newport responded by winning the next two points to take the set, 26-24. Following the close win in the first, the Captains captured the next two sets (25-16 and 25-16) to secure the match.

Hough and junior outside hitter Anna Lausberg (Ocoee, Fla./Bishop Moore Catholic) each tallied seven kills to lead the Generals. Junior setter Alex Kinzer (Greenville, S.C./Eastside) notched 22 assists, seven digs and three kills.

In the back row, senior defensive specialist Kelly McManus (Osprey, Fla./Pine View) and junior outside hitter Kasey Cannon (North Wales, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) each recorded 12 digs.

Miller led the Captains with 11 kills on 22 attempts for a .364 hitting percentage. Sophomore outside hitter Maddie McCann added nine kills, while sophomore outside hitter Briana Sutton and first-year opposite-side Eliza Fisher totaled eight.

The Generals will play Cabrini at 10:00 am on Saturday, and will finish up their play at the CNU Captains Classic at 2:00 pm against Meredith.
