W&L Volleyball Drops Match to Defiance, 3-1

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Despite 20 kills from senior outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's), the Washington and Lee volleyball team lost to Defiance, 3-1, on Saturday in a neutral-site match at Transylvania.

The 25-18, 25-23, 22-25, 16-25 loss, coupled with Friday's loss at Centre, marked the first two-match losing streak of the season for the Generals (16-5). The Yellow Jackets (16-5) hit .259 in the contest compared to .148 for W&L.

Boles totaled her 20 kills on 54 attempts with just four errors (.296). She also added 11 digs, two service aces and three total blocks. The 20 kills were a season high for Boles. Senior outside hitter Allison Rouse (Troy, Mich./Troy) notched the next highest kill total with eight. She also had 13 digs.

Junior defensive specialist Kelly McManus (Osprey, Fla./Pine View) tallied a team-high 20 digs, which marked the fourth time this season she has had at least 20 digs.

Senior Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) and sophomore Alex Kinzer (Greenville, S.C./Eastside) split the setting duties. Meleski recorded 18 assists, while Kinzer registered 15.

Defiance had four players with at least 12 kills. Junior outside hitter Bree Anderson led the squad with 16 and senior middle blocker Lexy Pierce added 13. Sophomore defensive specialist Rebecca Kain totaled a match-high 21 digs, and junior setter Alicia Kalik had 49 assists.

The Generals played Transylvania later on Saturday.
