WINCHESTER, Va. — The Washington and Lee volleyball team remained perfect in ODAC play with a 3-1 victory at Shenandoah on Wednesday.
The Generals (14-3, 5-0 ODAC) took a 2-0 lead by winning the first two sets, 25-15 and 25-13. The Hornets (8-10, 2-4 ODAC) responded by taking the third, 25-23, but W&L closed out the match in the fourth, 25-14.
Senior setter Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) continued to do a little bit of everything for the Blue and White with four kills, 41 assists, eight digs and two service aces. Senior outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's) notched a match-high 13 kills and added 11 digs. First-year outside hitter Courtney Freudenthal (Glen Allen, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) totaled 11 kills on a .391 hitting percentage.
Junior defensive specialist Kelly McManus (Osprey, Fla./Pine View) tallied a match-high 22 digs, which tied a season high. It was the third time this season she registered at least 20 digs.
The Generals hit .333 as a team with 50 kills and 13 errors on 111 attempts. Shenandoah hit .000 with 26 kills and 26 errors on 123 attempts.
Senior middle blocker Haley Smith and junior outside hitter Rachel Gross each had eight kills for the Hornets. Junior middle blocker Samantha Schambach led the team with 13 digs.
With her 13 kills, Boles moved into second all-time at W&L in kills. She now has 1,515 in her career, which passed 2006 graduate Susan Gaillard's 1,506. Lindsay Ruckert '02 holds the all-time record with 1,519. Meleski is also 23 assists away from becoming only the second W&L player with 3,000 in her career.
The Generals host Hollins and Marymount on Saturday. The first match starts at 12:00 pm.
