LEXINGTON, Va. — The Washington and Lee volleyball team hit .374 to defeat Guilford, 3-0, at the Warner Center on Wednesday. The Generals' (13-3, 4-0 ODAC) defense also held the Quakers (6-8, 2-2 ODAC) to a -.025 hitting percentage.
In the W&L 25-6, 25-15, 25-21 win, the Blue and White totaled 45 kills on 91 total attempts with only 11 errors. Guilford notched 15 kills on 79 attempts with 17 errors.
Senior outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's) recorded a match-high 11 kills on 17 attempts (.588) with one error. First-year outside hitter Courtney Freudenthal (Glen Allen, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) registered 10 kills on 16 attempts (.562) with one error.
Senior setter Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) totaled 32 assists, two kills, two service aces and 10 digs. Junior defensive specialist Kelly McManus (Osprey, Fla./Pine View) tallied a team-high 12 digs.
Senior outside hitter Brittany Freeman (Hendersonville, N.C./North Henderson) and sophomore outside hitter Kelsey Ruehling (Three Rivers, Calif./Woodlake Union) each notched four kills for the Quakers. Senior setter Taylor Whitley (China Grove, N.C./Jesse C. Carson) led the team with 13 digs.
With her 11 kills, Boles became only the third W&L player to record at least 1,500 kills in her career. She has 1,502, which is four kills behind Susan Gaillard's '06 total of 1,506. Lindsay Ruckert '02 holds the all-time record with 1,519.
The Generals next play at Shenandoah on Wednesday, October 2, at 7:00 pm.
