W&L Volleyball Falls to No. 5 Christopher Newport, 3-1

LEXINGTON, Va. — Despite winning the opening set, the Washington and Lee volleyball dropped a 3-1 match to fifth-ranked Christopher Newport in the final match of the W&L Invitational on Saturday.

The Generals (6-2) jumped out to an early lead in the first and cruised to a 25-15 victory. In the second, W&L at one point led 17-12, but the Captains (6-2) slowly worked their way back into the set. Even after closing the gap, W&L still had set point at 24-23.

CNU's Hannah Miller (Palmyra, Va./Fluvanna County) recorded a kill to tie the second, but a kill (25-24) by senior outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's) gave the Blue and White another chance to take a 2-0 lead. The Captains responded with three straight points to claim the second, 27-25. With the momentum of the comeback, CNU won the third, 25-16, and the fourth, 25-21, to take the match.

Boles led all played with 16 kills and sophomore right side Maddie Kosar (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) joined her in double-digits with 10. Sophomore outside hitter Abby McIntyre (Hillsboro, Va./Loudoun Valley) notched 11 kills for the Captains and Miller added 10.

Senior setter Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) tallied a double-double with 37 assists and 12 digs. Junior defensive specialist Kelly McManus (Osprey, Fla./Pine View) recorded 11 digs.

The Captains stymied the Blue and White offense with 15 team blocks. Senior middle blocker Chastity Lacy (Crozet, Va./Western Albemarle) led the team with nine block assists to go along with nine kills, four assists and six digs.

Following the conclusion of the invitational, Boles was named to the All-Tournament Team. She also moved into seventh all-time in digs at W&L with 1,115.
