W&L Volleyball Suffers First Loss to No. 14 Otterbein, 3-0

LEXINGTON, Va. — In its first home match of the season and of the W&L Invitational, the Washington and Lee volleyball team fell to 14th-ranked Otterbein, 3-0, on Friday.

The Cardinals (5-0) jumped out in front in the first set and held on to win, 25-17. The Generals (4-1) grabbed the lead early in the second, but Otterbein won nine of the last 10 points to steal the set, 25-19. The Cardinals closed out the match in the third, 25-17.

Senior outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's) had 13 kills to lead the Blue and White and added six digs. Senior setter Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) tallied 16 assists and nine digs. W&L only hit .096 as a team in 94 attempts and committed 17 attack errors.

Senior outside hitter Annie Juenger (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline) led Otterbein with 13 kills on just 29 attempts (.414 hitting percentage) and also had nine digs. Junior setter Tabatha Piper (Sunbury, Ohio/Big Walnut) flirted with a triple-double, totaling five kills, 27 assists and seven digs. The Cardinals hit .333 on 90 attempts and only made eight attack errors.

W&L played Meredith later on Friday at the invitational.
