LEXINGTON, Va. — The Washington and Lee volleyball team hit .372 as a team and totaled nine team blocks to sweep Meredith, 3-0, on Friday at the W&L Invitational.
The Generals (5-1) had four players total at least eight kills on their way to the 25-20, 25-16, 25-16 victory. Senior outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's) led the team with 13 kills and sophomore outside hitter Anna Lausberg (Ocoee, Fla./Bishop Moore Catholic) recorded nine kills.
A couple of first-years contributed to the offense with outside hitter Courtney Freudenthal (Glen Allen, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) tallying nine kills and middle blocker Mackenzie Shand (Saline, Mich./Saline) notching eight on just 11 attempts for a .727 hitting percentage.
On the defensive side, Shand led the team with six total blocks and Lausberg and Freudenthal each had three block assists. Sophomore setter Alex Kinzer (Greenville, S.C./Eastside) notched a team-high 20 assists, and junior defensive specialist Kelly McManus (Osprey, Fla./Pine View) tallied eight digs. The Blue and White had 47 kills on 94 attempts with just 12 errors.
Sophomore middle blocker Jasmine Aguinaldo (Cary, N.C./Panther Creek) led the Avenging Angels (3-3) with eight kills on 15 attempts (.467). She also had a team-high seven digs.
The Generals finish up their play at their own invitational on Saturday against Southern Virginia at 10:30 am and fifth-ranked Christopher Newport at 3:30 pm.
