W&L Volleyball Takes Top Spot in ODAC Preseason Poll

FOREST, Va. — The Old Dominion Athletic Conference released its 2013 volleyball preseason coaches' poll on Thursday, and Washington and Lee secured the top spot out of 12 schools. The defending ODAC Champions garnered seven first-place votes and 114 points.

Randolph-Macon received two first-place votes and 109 total points to come in second. Lynchburg (96) collected the remaining three top nods to be selected third. Bridgewater with 89 points and Virginia Wesleyan with 86 points finished out the Top 5. Emory & Henry (75) came in sixth, with Roanoke (53), Guilford (50), Shenandoah (47), Randolph (32), Hollins (22) and Eastern Mennonite (19) rounding out the poll.

The Generals ended the 2012 season with a 3-0 loss in the NCAA First Round to Christopher Newport. The Blue and White finished with a 26-10 record overall and won its 13th conference championship. W&L returns 11 players from last year's NCAA Tournament team, including three All-ODAC honorees. The team also brings in six first-year athletes.

Senior outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's) and senior setter Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) headline the group of returners. Boles has garnered All-ODAC accolades three times, including a spot on the first team in 2012. She is currently fourth all-time in kills for the Generals with 1,299. Meleski made the All-ODAC second team last year, and is second all-time in assists at W&L with 2,434. Sophomore Anna Lausberg (Ocoee, Fla./Bishop Moore Catholic) also returns after receiving the ODAC Rookie of the Year award and making the All-ODAC second team last season.

The Generals open play at the Maryville College Invitational on Friday.
