W&L Volleyball Stumbles at No. 6 Emory, 3-1
ATLANTA, Ga. — In its final match at the Emory National Invitational, the Washington and Lee volleyball team fell to the host and sixth-ranked Emory, 3-1, on Saturday.
The Eagles (28-5) used a .326 hitting percentage to earn the 25-13, 25-20, 21-25, 25-18 victory over the Generals (23-10).
W&L hit .190 for the match with junior outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's) leading the team with 17 kills and 10 digs. Boles was also named to the all-tournament team. First-year outside hitter Anna Lausberg (Ocoee, Fla.Bishop Moore Catholic) also had a double-double with 14 kills and 12 digs.
Junior Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) totaled a double-double with 19 assists and 11 digs. Also tallying double-digit digs was first-year libero Kasey Cannon (North Wales, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) with 10.
Senior middle hitter Breanah Bourque led Emory with 17 kills on just 27 attempts for a .630 hitting percentage. First-year setter Sydney Miles distributed the ball with 41 assists.
It marked the second time this season the Eagles defeated W&L, after earning a 3-0 win on the first day of the regular season on August 31 at the Maryville Tournament.
The match was the final regular-season contest for the Generals. They host Roanoke on Wednesday, October 31, in the ODAC Tournament Quarterfinals.
