ATLANTA, Ga. — With 23 kills, junior outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's) led the Washington and Lee volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over UMass-Boston at the Emory National Invitational on Friday.
After losing the opening set, the Generals (23-8) came back to win the next three to earn the 24-26, 25-18, 25-20, 25-16 victory over the Beacons (15-9).
It marked the third time in the last five matches that Boles has tallied at least 20 kills. She added 13 digs to her 23 kills against UMass-Boston. Also totaling a double-double was first-year outside hitter Anna Lausberg (Ocoee, Fla./Bishop Moore Catholic). She recorded 16 kills, while hitting .333, and 16 digs.
For the defense, first-year libero Kasey Cannon (North Wales, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) notched 21 digs. Sophomore defensive specialist Kelly McManus (Osprey, Fla./Pine View) added 10 digs. Junior setter Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) and first-year setter Alex Kinzer (Greenville, S.C./Eastside) distributed the ball on offense. Meleski had 28 assists and Kinzer had 21.
Senior middle hitter Shannon Thompson led the Beacons with 17 kills and seven digs. Junior outside hitter Corrine Porter had a match-high 23 digs and senior defensive specialist Kayla Wilson was one behind her with 22.
The Generals play their final match of the invitational against the host school, Emory, on Saturday at 1 pm.
