SALEM, Va. — Despite dropping the opening set, the Washington and Lee volleyball team rallied to earn a 3-1 victory at Roanoke on Friday.
The 23-25, 25-11, 25-23, 26-24 win was the Generals' (20-7, 8-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference) sixth straight, while the loss ended the Maroons' (15-11, 4-6 ODAC) three-match winning streak.
The two-prong attack of junior outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's) and first-year outside hitter Anna Lausberg (Ocoee, Fla./Bishop Moore Catholic) led the Washington and Lee offense. Boles totaled 20 kills, while hitting .333. She also contributed eight digs, two service aces and three total blocks. Lausberg tallied 18 kills on a .282 hitting percentage, while recording nine digs and three total blocks.
Junior Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) and first-year Alex Kinzer (Greenville, S.C./Eastside) split the setting duties. Meleski totaled 31 assists and Kinzer had 16. Meleski also added eight digs and four kills.
For the defense, first-year libero Kasey Cannon (North Wales Cannon/Mt. St. Joseph Academy) racked up a match-high 25 digs. It marked the second time this season she has had 20-plus digs. Joining Cannon with double-digit digs for the Generals was sophomore defensive specialist Kelly McManus (Osprey, Fla./Pine View) with 13.
Sophomore outside hitter Sarah Long led Roanoke with 15 kills, but also had 11 attack errors in 43 total attempts. Sophomore libero Mackenzie Tyree led the team with 22 digs, while first-year setter Alexandra Martin had a double-double with 10 digs and 19 assists.
The Generals play at Hollins on Saturday, October 20, at 1:00 pm.
