LEXINGTON, Va. ‑ The Washington and Lee volleyball team extended its winning streak to three matches on Saturday morning with a 3-1 victory over Southern Virginia at the W&L Invitational.
The Generals improved to 3-0 on the weekend with the 25-18, 25-15, 19-25, 25-23 win. W&L moved to 5-2 overall with the Knights dropping to 0-3. Washington and Lee used 11 service aces and seven team blocks to stifle SVU. The Pioneers struggled in the service game with 17 errors compared to only eight aces.
Junior outside hitter Allison Rouse (Troy, Mich./Troy) filled the stat sheet for W&L with 13 kills, six digs and six service aces. She was the only Generals' player with double-digit kills. Junior outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. Johns School) added eight kills and six digs.
A total of five first-year players saw action for the team with first-year setter Alex Kinzer (Greenville, S.C./Eastside), playing in her first collegiate match, tallying 22 assists and five digs. Sophomore defensive specialist Kelly McManus (Osprey, Fla./Pine View School) led all players with 16 digs.
Junior middle blocker Tori Tuttle (Anahola, Hawaii/Kapaa) led the Knights with nine kills, and first-year right-side hitter Chelsea Lyons (McCallen, Texas/McCallen Memorial) had eight kills and eight digs.
The Generals finish their play at the invitational against Johns Hopkins at 3:30 pm.
