MARYVILLE, Tenn. — The Washington and Lee volleyball team used a balanced attack on Saturday, with three players recording at least nine kills, to defeat Rhodes, 3-0, at the Maryville Invitational.
The Generals improved to 2-1 with the 25-22, 25-21, 25-20 victory, while the Lynx dropped to 0-3.
First-year outside hitter Anna Lausberg (Ocoee, Fla./Bishop Moore Catholic) led W&L in kills for the second straight match, tallying 14. It marked the first double-digit kill total in her collegiate career.
Along with Lausberg, junior outside hitter Allison Rouse (Troy, Mich./Troy) had 11 kills and sophomore middle blocker Katie Toomb (Lebanon, Ore./Lebanon) totaled nine. Junior setter Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va.) distributed the ball with 30 assists, along with three service aces.
In the back row, sophomore defensive specialist Kelly McManus (Osprey, Fla./Pine View) and first-year right-side player Maddie Kosar (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) stood out statistically. McManus recorded 10 digs, which marked the third straight match she totaled double-digit digs. Kosar tallied eight digs and a season-high five service aces.
The Generals play their final match of the invitational later on Saturday at 3:00 pm against host Maryville.
