MARYVILLE, Tenn. — In its final match of the Maryville Invitational, the Washington and Lee volleyball team lost in four sets to the host school, 3-1.
The loss dropped the Generals to 2-2 overall, while Maryville improved to 2-2, following the 26-24, 10-25, 25-18, 25-19 victory.
First-year outside hitter Anna Lausburg (Oceoo, Fla./Bishop Moore Catholic) led all players with 14 kills for her second consecutive double-digit kill match. Junior outside hitter Allison Rouse (Troy, Mich./Troy) added 11 kills and three aces. Junior setter Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) had 36 assists.
The Scots' senior outside hitter Kara Strickland led her team with 11 kills and 14 digs. Senior setter Teri Lind totaled 29 assists.
For the W&L defense, sophomore defensive specialist Kelly McManus (Osprey, Fla./Pine View) tied a season high with 18 digs. Rouse had the second-most on the team with nine.
The Generals defeated Rhodes, 3-0, earlier in the day. W&L hosts its own invitational next weekend, September 7-8, and opens with N.C. Wesleyan on Friday at 5:00 pm.
