LEXINGTON, Va. -- The top-seeded Washington and Lee volleyball team fell, 3-1, second-seeded Randolph-Macon in the ODAC Championship match on Saturday evening in the Warner Center.
W&L (27-8), fell 26-24, 24-26, 25-19, 25-19 to R-MC (23-5).
Sophomore outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's) was one of four different Generals to record at least 10 kills, as she netted a team-high 17. First-year outside hitter Rachel Guarisco (Tuscaloosa, Ala./Holy Spirit) added 12 kills, and first-year middle blocker Katie Toomb (Lebanon, Ore./Lebanon) and sophomore right side Allison Rouse (Troy, Mich./Troy) each registered 10.
Junior libero Cameron Hill (Tampa, Fla./H.B. Plant) led W&L with 19 digs and Boles had 15. First-year setter Corinne Hemmersbach (Torrance, Calif./Chadwick) and sophomore setter Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) each had 11 digs and Meleski had 49 assists.
The Yellow Jackets were led by Mallory Carter, who had 21 kills and Tori Puryear, who added 13, while hitting .303. Marli Dabareiner led R-MC with 19 digs, Carter added 17, Jessica Sears 12 and Joelle Gross chipped in 11.
Mallory James had nine blocks to lead the Yellow Jackets.
Following the contest, Boles and Meleski were named to the All-Tournament team as were Carter, Sears and Puryear for Randolph-Macon. They were joined by Becca Loftis from Lynchburg and Taylor Allen from Virginia Wesleyan.
With the win, R-MC has earned the ODAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, while W&L must wait until Monday at 11:00 am to await word on a possible at-large birth.
