LEXINGTON, Va. -- The top-seeded Washington and Lee volleyball team used a dominant offensive performance to sweep No. 8 Hollins, 3-0, in the quarterfinal round of the ODAC Tournament on Wednesday evening at the Warner Center.
The Generals (26-7) hit a whopping .481 as a team en route to the 25-17, 25-9, 25-16 win over. W&L limited Hollins (8-21) to just a .066 hitting percentage.
Senior middle blocker Lindsey Dee (Tallahassee, Fla./Maclay School) led the charge, with 12 kills on just 13 swings for a .923 hitting percentage. She needed only two more attack attempts in order to qualify for a potential new school record for hitting percentage in a match.
First-year outside hitter Rachel Guarisco (Tuscaloosa, Ala./Holy Spirit) added 11 kills on 16 swings for a .526 hitting percentage, sophomore outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's) had nine kills and sophomore outside hitter Allison Rouse (Troy, Mich./Troy) and first-year middle blocker Katie Toomb (Lebanon, Ore./Lebanon) each had seven kills.
Rouse also had a team-high 11 digs, while first-year setter Corinne Hemmersbach (Torrance, Calif./Chadwick) added eight digs and 39 assists.
Junior Ally Reed (Sterling, Va./Dominion) led HU with eight kills, while adding five digs. First-year middle blocker Mandi McDade (Eustis, Fla./Eustis) and first-year libero Morgan Russell (Peoria, Ariz./Liberty) each had a team-high seven digs.
With the win, the Generals advance to the semifinal round of the ODAC Tournament and will meet the winner of No. 4 Bridgewater vs. No. 5 Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday. By virtue of being the No. 1 seed, the Generals will host the semifinal and final rounds. W&L's match on Saturday will begin at 10:00 am, with the second semifinal being played at 12:30 pm and the finals following at 5:00 pm. Live stats and video will be provided for all three matches on Saturday.
