LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball disproved 13 being an unlucky number as the Generals swept Bridgewater College, 3-0, on Tuesday evening in the Warner Center to move to 13-0 on the season.
The Generals, who also sit atop the ODAC with a 4-0 conference mark, defeated the Eagles (7-4, 1-2 ODAC) 25-12, 25-19, 25-10.
Sophomore outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's) continued to be the catalyst for the Generals' offense as she recorded 14 kills and hit a whopping .778 for the match. The .778 hitting percentage tied for the fourth-best mark ever at W&L and was the highest by a General since Laura Maurer '09 achieved the same feat in 2005.
Aiding Boles' offensive effort was senior outside hitter Megan Daily (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook), who notched five kills and senior middle blocker Lindsey Dee (Tallahassee, Fla./Maclay School), who had four.
Junior libero Cameron Hill (Tampa, Fla./H.B. Plant) had a team-high seven digs, while Boles added six. Sophomore setter Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) had three of W&L's 10 service aces to accompany 29 assists. Hill, senior defensive specialist Megan Tomlinson (Petersburg, Pa./Huntingdon Area) and first-year setter Corinne Hemmersbach (Torrance, Calif./Chadwick) each had a pair of service aces.
Bridgewater, which hit just .054 as a team, was led by senior middle hitter Katie Baker (Strasburg, Va./Strasburg), who had a team-best six kills. Sophomore outside hitter Katie Long (Floyd, Va./Floyd County) and first-year setter Lauren Johnson (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) each had four kills. Junior outside hitter Mara Hogan (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) led the Eagle defense with seven digs and Johnson had 11 assists.
W&L will put its perfect record on the line when it takes on Geneva (Pa.) at 5:00 pm on Friday on day one of the Pioneer Classic hosted by Marietta.
