LEXINGTON, Va. -- Behind a strong showing from sophomore outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's), the Washington and Lee volleyball team won its own tournament for the eighth time overall, and the third time in the last four years, with a 3-0 victory over Gettysburg on Saturday afternoon in the final match of the W&L Invitational.
The Generals, who dropped just one set all weekend, knocked off the Bullets 25-18, 25-18, 25-21 to remain unbeaten on the season (8-0). Gettysburg slipped to 4-3 with the loss.
Boles wrapped up a fantastic tournament tallying 20 kills and a .514 hitting percentage against the Bullets. She also added nine digs. Sophomore outside hitter Allison Rouse (Troy, Mich./Troy) chipped in 13 kills and six digs.
Sophomore setter Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) totaled 36 assists and seven digs. Junior libero Cameron Hill (Tampa, Fla./H.B. Plant) and senior defensive specialist Megan Tomlinson (Petersburg, Pa./Huntingdon Area) paced the defense with 11 digs apiece and Tomlinson had three service aces.
For the Bullets, Virginia Hogan netter a team-high 11 kills and Sarah Gorski and Cydney Bracken added five apiece. LIzzy Kuhn and Nicole Petrillo split time running the Gettysburg offense, each collecting 13 assists. Rebecca Rubenstein posted 13 digs.
The Generals, who are off to their best start since 2008 when they also started 8-0 before falling to Maryville, return to action on Tuesday when they open ODAC play at Guilford beginning at 7:00 pm.
