W&L Volleyball Fends Off Cougars, 3-0

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee continued its strong 2011 campaign, improving to 5-0 on the season with a 3-0 win over Averett on Friday evening on day one of the W&L Invitational.

W&L, which held off the Cougars (4-3) 26-24 in the first set, posted 25-16 and 25-11 wins in sets two and three to knock off Averett for the second time in as many meetings.
Sophomore outside hitter Allison Rouse (Troy, Mich./Troy) led the Generals' offense with 11 kills, while also contributing seven digs. Sophomore outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's) added seven kills and three service aces.
Junior libero Cameron Hill (Tampa, Fla./H.B. Plant) led the defense with a match-high 15 digs and she was one of four different Generals to record a pair of service aces.
Allison Sparks and Brittany Moore each had six kills for the Cougars and Paige Aaron recorded six of AU's 11 service aces.
The Generals continue play on day one of the W&L Invitational when they take on Elizabethtown at 8:00 pm.
