DANVILLE, Va. – The Washington and Lee volleyball team concluded play at the Cougar Classic hosted by Averett University by knocking off the host Cougars, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon.
W&L (4-0) recovered after dropping the first set, 25-15, to post set scores of 25-9, 25-18, 25-13 en route to the win.
The Generals featured a balanced offensive attack, led by sophomore outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's), who posted 13 kills. Sophomore outside hitter Allison Rouse (Troy, Mich./Troy) added 11, and senior middle blocker Lindsey Dee (Tallahassee, Fla./Maclay School), junior right side Taylor Maxey (Poway, Calif./Bishop's School) and sophomore middle blocker Emily Hudson (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) each tallied five kills.
Junior libero Cameron Hill (Tampa, Fla./H.B. Plant) paced the W&L defense with 19 digs. Boles added 16 digs to go with three service aces.
Dee came up with a season-high seven blocks and sophomore setter Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) added four blocks.
At the conclusion of play, Meleski was named the Tournament MVP and was joined on the All-Tournament team by Boles.
The Generals return to action on Friday as they open up play in the W&L Invitational. W&L's first match will be a rematch against Averett beginning at 5:30 pm.
