W&L Volleyball Triumphs Over Peace, 3-0, in Season Opener

DANVILLE, Va. – The Washington and Lee volleyball team opened its 2011 season with a 3-0 shutout of Peace College on day one of the Cougar Classic hosted by Averett University.

Set scores for the match were not immediately available.

The Generals (1-0) were led by sophomore outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's), who tallied a team-high 12 kills and did not make an error. Senior middle blocker Lindsey Dee (Tallahassee, Fla./Maclay School) added nine kills while hitting a robust .538. 

Sophomore Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) and first-year Corinne Hemmersbach (Torrance, Calif./Chadwick) shared the setting duties. Meleski collected 16 assists and Hemmersbach added 13.

Junior libero Cameron Hill (Tampa, Fla./H.B. Plant) led the defense with 16 digs and sophomore outside hitter Allison Rouse (Troy, Mich./Troy) chipped in six kills and first-year defensive specialist Kelly McManus (Osprey, Fla./Pine View) contributed a pair of service aces. 

W&L continues play on day one when it takes on ODAC foe Guilford at 4:00 pm.
