W&L Volleyball Slips by Southern Virginia, 3-2
LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team secured
its first win of the season with a 3-2 triumph over Southern
Virginia on day two of the W&L Invitational on Saturday
morning.
The Generals eked out the five-set win by scores of 25-14, 19-25,
25-22, 21-25, 20-18 to move to 1-2 on the season. SVU falls to 5-8
with the loss.
W&L was led offensively by junior middle blocker Louise Brooks
(Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr), who totaled 20 kills and sophomore
middle blocker Lindsey Dee (Tallahassee, Fla./Maclay School), who
added 10 kills.
Senior outside hitter Rachael Phillips (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep)
chipped in nine kills and 20 digs, while first-year libero Cameron
Hill (Tampa, Fla./H.B. Plant) notched 18 digs. Senior setter Megan
Steinhardt (Cedar Park, Texas/Cedar Park) paced the Generals with a
season-high 46 assists.
The Generals will wrap up play in the W&L Invitational when
they take on No. 1 Emory at 3:30 on Saturday.
