W&L Women's Track & Field Wins Six Events at WildCat Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va. — First-year Alexa Castellana (Boonton, N.J./Mountain Lakes) won two events to lead the Washington and Lee women's track and field team at the WildCat Invitational hosted by Randolph on Saturday.

The Generals won six events total, with Castellana the only competitor to claim two on the team. She won the long jump with a leap of 4.55m (14'11.25") and the triple jump at 10.95m (32'11.75"). First-year Sarah Leonard (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) placed third in the triple jump at 9.31m (30'6.50"). Castellana was also third in the high jump at 1.40m (4'7.00").

Senior Lizzy Stanton (Papillion, Neb./Papillion-LaVista South) won the pole vault at 3.55m (11'7.75"). In the 5,000m, sophomore Samantha Yates (Birmingham, Ala./St. Paul's School) claimed first with a time of 18:25.63.

Junior Kaleigh Hinton (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park) was first in the 400m hurdles in 1:08.41, and senior Catherine Fonvielle (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) finished first in the 800m with a career-best time of 2:16.90.

Senior Kara Farroni (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby South) had two Top 3 finishes. She was second in the 200m with a career-best time (26.94) and third in the 100m (13.46). Sophomore Kirsten McMichael (Eighty Four, Pa./Ringgold) placed third in the 1,500m with a career-best time (4:58.54) behind two unattached runners.

Senior Mackenzie Shand (Saline, Mich./Saline) registered three Top 3 finishes in the throwing events. She was second in the shot put with a career-best mark of 11.30m (37'1.25") and second in the hammer throw with a career-best toss of 36.72m (120'6.00"). In the discus, senior Jamie White (Prosser, Wash./Prosser) was second with a career-best toss of 32.71m (107'4.00"), and Shand took third at 32.39m (106'3.50").

The Generals host the the ODAC Championship on Friday and Saturday at Wilson Field.
