MEDFORD, Mass. — The Washington and Lee women's Distance Medley Relay registered a new school and ODAC record at the Tufts Final Qualifying Meet on Saturday.
The quartet consisted of sophomores Maggie Seybold (Cockeysville, Md./McDonogh School) and Samantha Yates (Birmingham, Ala./St. Paul's School), and seniors Dana Lee (Nashville, Tenn./St. Cecilia Academy) and Catherine Fonvielle (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen's & St. Agnes). The relay finished fifth overall with a time of 11:58.66. It broke the previous W&L and conference record of 12:10.92 the foursome set earlier this season on February 4. The new mark is tied for the 11th-fastest time in Division III this year.
Seybold completed the first leg of the relay (1,200m) in 3:39.50, and then Lee registered a 59.10 split in the 400m. Fonvielle recorded a time of 2:17.00 in the 800m, and Yates ran the anchor leg (1,600m) in 5:03.10.
In the long jump, Lee finished fifth with a leap of 5.51m (18'01.00") and was fourth in the triple jump at 11.20m (36'09.00"). Senior Lizzy Stanton (Papillion, Neb./Papillion-LaVista South) placed sixth in the pole vault at 3.42m (11'2.50").
Washington and Lee will find out Monday morning if any competitors qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championship on March 10-11.
