LYNCHBURG, Va. — The Washington and Lee women's track and field team had two runners in the Top 5 in the mile to pace the team at the Liberty Kickoff on Saturday.
Sophomore Maggie Seybold (Cockeysville, Md./McDonogh School) placed fourth overall in 5:05.90, and sophomore Samantha Yates (Birmingham, Ala./St. Paul's School) was a split second behind her in fifth (5:05.09). Seybold was the top Division III performer and Yates was second, as the meet also featured Division I and II schools. Junior Rachel Steffen (Coronado, Calif./Coronado) also claimed 17th (fifth in D III) in the event at 5:33.31.
In the 800m, senior Catherine Fonvielle (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) was 15th overall (second in D III) with a time of 2:24.85. Junior Lily Arnold (Jacksonville, Fla./The Bolles School) came in 18th (fourth in D III) in 2:26.58. Senior Dana Lee (Nashville, Tenn./St. Cecilia Academy) was the top Division III runner (30th overall) in the 400m (1:02.73).
The Generals' 4x400m relay finished 10th overall and first in Division III with a time of 4:14.88. The quartet consisted of senior Ali Peacock (Libertyville, Ill./Vernon Hills), junior Kaleigh Hinton (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park), Fonvielle and senior Kara Farroni (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby South).
The next meet on the schedule for the Generals is the JDL Camel City Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C. on February 3.
