Lee Breaks W&L Triple Jump Record at Commonwealth Duals

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — First-year Dana Lee (Nashville, Tenn./St. Cecilia Academy) led the Washington and Lee women's track and field team at the Commonwealth Duals on Saturday. Competing against Christopher Newport and Virginia Wesleyan, Lee won two events and set a new school record.

Lee notched the new record in the triple jump with a mark of 10.93m (35'10.50"). She finished second overall in the event, but topped the previous W&L record of 10.54m (34'07.00"). Stacy Doornboos originally set the mark in 2006, and Lee had previously tied it last week at the W&L Carnival.

In the long jump, Lee took first with a leap of 5.47m (17'11.50). She also crossed the finish line first in the 100m with a time of 12.90.

The Generals took the top three spots in the pole vault. First-year Lizzy Stanton (Papillion, Neb./Papillion-LaVista South) placed first at 3.12m (10'02.75"), while seniors Leigh Dannhauser (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville) and Alex Hagan (Tampa, Fla./H.B. Plant) each cleared 2.52m (8'03.25") to take second and third, respectively. Dannhauser also was second in the javelin with a throw of 23.86m (78'03.00").

In the other field events, junior Lucy Ortiz (Ketchikan, Alaska/Ketchikan) placed second in the shot put at 8.57m (28'01.50") and first-year Maggie Dick (Pepper Pike, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) finished third in the discus with a throw of 25.29m (83'00.00").

Junior Sarah Helms (Cumming, Ga./North Forsyth) came in third in the 400m with a time of 1:01.56. In the 800m, senior Annelise Madison (Roca, Neb./Norris) was third in 2:20.02, and first-year Catherine Fonvielle (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) was one spot behind her in fourth (2:24.06).

In the 5,000m, sophomore Katy Bonaro (Waldorf, Md./North Point) took second in 20:11.16, and first-year Alana Babington (Mobile, Ala./St. Paul's Episcopal) was right behind her in third (20:12.16). Senior Julia Murray (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) finished third in the 200m in 28.26.

The Generals return to action on Saturday, April 12, at the Hopkins-Loyola Invitational.
