Lee Breaks W&L Long Jump Record at Marietta Open
MARIETTA, Ohio — First-year Dana Lee (Nashville, Tenn./St. Cecilia Academy) broke the W&L long jump record in leading the Washington and Lee women's track and field team at the Marietta Open on Saturday.
Lee jumped 5.63m (18'05.75"), which not only set a new record but was the top mark in the event. Stacy Doornbos previously held the record at 5.48m (18'00.00") set in 2009. Lee's mark of 5.63m is the second-best mark in Division III this year, as of the posting of this release.
Lee also finished second in the 200m with a time of 27.34, and came in third in the triple jump at 10.38m (34'00.75").
First-year Lizzy Stanton (Papillion, Neb./Papillion-LaVista South) tied for first in the pole vault at 3.35m (10'11.75") to mark her second top finish in as many weeks.
In the relays, the Blue and White placed third in the 4x200m (1:56.30) and the DMR (14:32.32). The quartet in the 4x200m comprised of senior Julia Murray (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan), first-year Laurie Akin (Mountain Brook, Ala./Mountain Brook), first-year Kara Farroni (Willoughby, Ohio./Willoughby South) and senior Lauren Woodie (Bluefield, Va./Graham).
Junior Kristina Seon (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK), first-year Liz Spruill (Richmond, Va./St. Catherine's), junior Lucy Ortiz (Ketchikan, Alaska/Ketchikan) and senior Katie Driest (Davidson, N.C./North Mecklenburg) made up the foursome in the DMR.
The Generals will compete at the Bison Open next Saturday.
