Fugate Garners All-Academic Honor from USTFCCCA

NEW ORLEANS — The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the Division III Women's Scholar Athletes of the Year and the All-Academic honorees recently, and Washington and Lee rising junior Janey Fugate (Atlanta, Ga./Whitefield Academy) garnered All-Academic laurels. The Generals were also named a USTFCCCA 2013 All-Academic Team. 

Fugate was one of 363 student-athletes to achieve All-Academic status. She ended her second year by competing at the NCAA Division III Women's Track and Field Championship in the 400m hurdles on May 23, taking 22nd. Fugate won the 400m hurdles at the ODAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship.

As a team, W&L posted a 3.41 overall team GPA. The Generals finished second at both the ODAC Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 and have met either of the following athletic standards: a student-athlete must have competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship or finished the regular season ranked in the national Top 35 in an individual event or ranked in the national Top 25 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.

To be recognized as an All-Academic Team, a squad must accumulate a team GPA of at least 3.10.

Christy Cazzola of UW-Oshkosh was named the Indoor and Outdoor Track Scholar Athlete of the Year and Michelle Favre of Ramapo was the Indoor and Outdoor Field Scholar Athlete of the Year.
