Madison Breaks W&L 1,500m Record at Swat Meet

CHESTER, Pa. — Competing at the final meet before the NCAA Championship, junior Annelise Madison (Roca, Neb./Norris) broke the Washington and Lee women's track and field 1,500m record at the Swat Final Qualifying Meet on Monday.

Madison crossed the finish line in 4:37.84, which broke the mark of 4:37.90 set by Elizabeth Webb in 2008. The record-breaking time was almost four seconds faster than Madison's previous career best of 4:41.57, which she ran in 2012.

The Generals had two athletes in the 3,000m steeplechase. Senior Molly Ortiz (Ketchikan, Alaska/Ketchikan) finished in 11:17.78, and senior Lauren Schultz (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) completed the race in 11:37.32.

The list of competitors that qualify for the NCAA Championship will be released on Saturday.
