PHILADELPHIA — For the first time in Washington and Lee women's track and field history, the Generals had an athlete run at the historic Penn Relays. Sophomore Janey Fugate (Atlanta, Ga./Whitefield Academy) competed in the 400H on Thursday, and finished third among Division III competitors.
Fugate crossed the finish line in 1:03.53, which placed her 46th overall out of 54 of the top runners in Division I, II and III. She beat Division I athletes from Mississippi State, Princeton, Houston and Penn.
In Division III this season, Fugate has the sixth-fastest time in the 400H at 1:02.45, which she set at the W&L Track and Field Carnival on March 23. The time also broke her own program record.
The Generals will be back in action on May 1 at the Liberty Twilight Meet.
