LEXINGTON, Va. — The Washington and Lee women's track and field team took the top two spots in the 10,000m and the 3,000m steeplechase to hold second place after day one of the 2013 ODAC Track and Field Championship at Wilson Field on Friday. Lynchburg leads with 57 points, the Generals have 49 points and Roanoke is third (41.5 points).
In the closest race of the evening, seniors Lauren Schultz (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) and Molly Ortiz (Ketchikan, Alaska/Ketchikan) finished with identical times of 12:00.57. Schultz crossed the finish line a fraction of a second before Ortiz to claim first. Along with the top two spots, first-year Leigh Stauffer (Thomasville, Ga./Brookwood School) claimed sixth in 13:13.94 to score for the Generals. Schultz garnered First Team All-ODAC honors, while Ortiz earned Second Team.
Sophomore Casey Mackintosh (Marietta, Ga./George Walton) claimed first in the 10,000m in 37:58.71 to earn First Team All-ODAC honors. It also was an ODAC meet record. Schultz caught Kiley Trennepohl of Lynchburg in the final 100m to take second in 38:04.30.
In the high jump, W&L took third and fourth. First-year Maggie Kleber (Beach Haven, N.J./Southern Regional) garnered Third Team All-ODAC, placing second with a mark of 1.53m (5'00.25"). Junior Leigh Dannhauser (Bronxville, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber) came in fourth with a jump of 1.48m (4'10.25").
The second and final day of the competition will take place on Saturday, starting at 10:00 am.
