W&L Women's T&F Wraps Up Competition at Carnival
LEXINGTON, Va. — At the second and final day of the W&L Carnival, the Washington and Lee women's track and field team had multiple Top 4 finishes and sophomore Janey Fugate (Atlanta, Ga./Whitefield Academy) broke her own 400H school record for the second consecutive week.
Fugate took first in the 400H with a time of 62.45. It improved her already fastest time in Division III this year, and bested her school-record time of 62.92, which she set at the Dr. Jack M. Toms Invite last week.
Also earning a Top 3 finish was junior Annelise Madison (Roca, Neb./Norris). She placed third in the 800m in 2:19.69. Senior Molly Ortiz (Ketchikan, Alaska/Ketchikan) recorded a personal best in the 800m with a time of 2:24.03.
The 4x100m relay claimed fourth in 50.72. The quartet consisted of senior Marissa Thompson (Chatham, Va./Chatham), junior Julia Murray (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan), Fugate and first-year Molly Ungrady (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./The Bolles School).
Murray also had a strong time in the 400m at 62.70.
The Generals return to competition at the Commonwealth Duals on Saturday, March 30.
