NEW ORLEANS -- The Washington and Lee men's and women's track and field teams were honored on Thursday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as 2012 All-Academic Teams.
The Generals' women's team accrued a 3.33 overall team GPA and was one of 137 institutions to earn All-Academic status. W&L finished second at the Indoor ODAC Championships and third at the Outdoor ODAC Championships. Rising sophomore Jillian Katterhagen (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) won the pole vault at both the indoor and outdoor meets, while classmate Janey Fugate (Atlanta, Ga./Whitefield Academy) won the 400m hurdles at the outdoor meet. Junior Annelise Madison (Roca, Neb./Norris) was the champion in the one-mile run at the indoor championship.
The men's team, which posted a 3.11 overall team GPA, took second at the Indoor ODAC Championships and third at the Outdoor ODAC Championships. Rising junior Zander Tallman (Grand Blanc, Mich./Cranbrook-Kingswood) claimed the 200m and 400m titles at both the indoor and outdoor championships. Tallman earned the Athlete of the Meet honor at the indoor meet. W&L was one of 74 men's teams to achieve All-Academic status.
To be recognized by the USTFCCCA, a team must accumulate a team GPA of at least 3.10.
