ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Washington and Lee women's track & field team took part in he Navy Sweetheart Meet hosted by the Naval Academy at Wesleyan Brown Field House on Thursday evening.
Competing against several Division I schools and a pair of Division III schools, the W&L women were led by sophomore Annelise Madison (Roca, Neb./Norris), who placed second overall in the mile with a time of 5:15.35.
Junior Lauren Schultz (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton), who took fourth overall in the 3000m with a time of 10:44.38. Sophomore Brandie Huffman (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) added a seventh-place finish in 10:55.39.
First-year Jillian Katterhagen (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) also nabbed a fourth-place finish, clearing 3.15 meters in the pole vault. First-year Janey Fugate (Atlanta, Ga./Whitefield Academy) placed sixth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 10.03.
Junior Molly Ortiz (Ketchikan, Alaska/Ketchikan) and senior Natalie Stier (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Ireton) each earned 10th-place finishes. Ortiz in the in mile (5:33.97) and Stier in the 800m (2:32.36).
Finally, the sprint medley relay finished in fourth place with a school-record time of 4:28.40. That team consisted of Fugate, Stier, Katterhaen and Madison.
The Generals return to action on Feb. 17 when they take part in day one of the Virginia Tech Challenge beginning at 4:00 pm.
