MARIETTA, Ohio -- The Washington and Lee women's track & field team took part in its first meet of 2012 at the Marietta Open on Saturday afternoon and came away with 13 Top 5 finishes.
Headlining the results for W&L were three event wins on the day, including junior Marissa Thompson (Chatham, Va./Chatham), who won the 55m hurdles in 9.12, sophomore Leigh Dannhauser (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville), who captured the high jump with a mark of 1.47 meters and the 4x400m relay team of first- years Janey Fugate (Atlanta, Ga./Whitefield Academy) and Jillian Katterhagen (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands), and sophmores Kelsey McClary (Greenwood, Va./Western Albermarle) and Lauren Woodie (Bluefield, Va./Graham), who posted a time of 4:16.00.
Fugate and Katterhagen also recorded second-place individual finishes as Fugate was the runner-up in the 500m (1:21.84) and Katterhagen took second in the pole vault (3.15m). Sophomore Alexandra Hagan (Tampa, Fla./H.B. Plant) placed fourth in the pole vault with a height of 2.44 meters.
Sophomore Julia Murray (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) took home second place in the 400m with a time of 1:07.82 and junior Taylor Maxey's (Poway, Calif./Bishop's School) mark of 12.69 meters in the weight throw was also good for second place.
Woodie rounded out the individual finishes with a third-place finish in the 800m (2:35.29) and the 4x200m relay team of Murray, Woodie, junior Paige Gance (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) and Dannhauser also took third in 1:58.98.
The Generals next compete on Jan. 27, when they take part in the two-day Liberty Open & Multi's beginning at 2:00 pm.
