W&L Women's T&F Takes Part on Final Day of Liberty Kickoff

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Competing against NCAA Div. I, II and III teams, the Washington and Lee women's track & field team recorded three event wins among Div. III athletes to go with 11 Div. III Top 5 finishes on the second day of the Liberty Kickoff hosted by Liberty University on Saturday afternoon.

First-year Janey Fugate (Atlanta, Ga./Whitfield Academy) had one of the Generals' first-place finishes in Div. III, as she captured the 400m in 1:01.26 to finish third overall. She also finished second among Div. III competitors in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.91.

Sophomore Leigh Dannhauser (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville) and first-year Mary Kamp (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Forks Central) tied for first in Div. III in the high jump with a height of 1.50m.

First-year Jillian Katterhagen (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) added to her first-place finish in the pole vault on day one by taking third in the 400m (1:03.40) and tying for fourth in the 60m hurdles (10.07).

Just ahead of Katterhagen in the 60m hurdles was first-year Jennifer Friberg (Atlanta, Ga./Whitefield Academy), who took third with a time of 9.95. She also placed fourth in the 200m (28.16) and tied for fourth in the 60m (8.45).

Finally, the Generals 4x400m relay team of Fugate, Katterhagen, Friberg and sophomore Lauren Woodie (Bluefield, Va./Graham) placed first with a time of 4:12.00.

The Generals return to the track following the holiday break on January 14, when they travel to Marietta, Ohio for the Marietta Open.
