LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's track & field team took part in day one of the season-opening Liberty Kickoff event on Friday afternoon at Liberty University.
First-year Jillian Katterhagen (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) made a splash in her first collegiate meet, taking first among NCAA Division III athletes in the pole vault with a mark of 3.16 meters. Sophomore Alexandra Hagan (Tampa, Fla./H.B. Plant) was second among Div. III athletes with a mark of 2.55 meters.
Katterhagen and Hagan's marks among all competitors were not immediately available.
The Generals had one other athlete in competition on the day, as junior Marissa Thompson (Chatham, Va./Chatham) took part in the first day of the pentathlon. Thompson sits first among Div. III athletes and ninth overall with 2,781 points after day one.
She recorded a time of 9.72 in the 60m hurdles, 1.42 meters in the high jump, 10.19 meters in the shot put, 4.58 meters in the long jump and a time of 2:47.20 in the 800m.
W&L begins day two of the Liberty Kickoff on Saturday beginning at 9:00 am.
